The Christchurch Airport Bunnings Warehouse development is located on a 27,600m2 site within the new Harvard Park subdivision within the CIAL campus. The project incorporates a 7,500m2 internal air conditioned retail area, 2,000m2 internal air conditioned drive through timber trade sales area, a 1,100m2 roofed building materials area, 2,400m2 roofed nursery area and 306 car parks. Envision undertook the role of design, project and construction managers for CIAL to translate the Bunnings Warehouse Construction Brief (BWCB) into a design that met the requirements of both Bunnings and CIAL. During the delivery of the project, Bunnings introduced a significant number of scope changes to the original BWCB to allow for the integration of items such as a sprinkler system, air conditioning, change of lighting specifications and two re-designs of the office and entertainment precinct to name but a few. Envision’s team carefully managed this process with consent amendments with the Christchurch City Council and continually altering the sequencing of construction works within the programme to ensure that no delays were incurred on site. With all these changes Envision and the project team were still able to successfully complete the project three months ahead of the original approved practical completion date to allow Bunnings to begin trading prior to Christmas 2019.
