Team members from Envision have been working with Boxman on their commercial storage facility at Dakota Park, Christchurch Airport since the project’s inception over 4 years ago and led the consultant team during the design phases of the project.
In more recent months the Envision team were requested to assist with the delivery and project management of the crane installation.
Today we celebrated the successful installation of the Gantry Crane which was built in the Netherlands by the Dutch firm Hollestelle.
The original intent was to install the Gantry Crane during the construction phase prior to the roof installation. However due to the pandemic, the Crane fabrication and shipment to New Zealand was delayed.
Working together with VIP Steel, Titan Cranes and Quoin Structural Consultants, the team along with the Boxman Client, successfully navigated the challenges of installing a 90 tonne gantry crane within a completed building. With careful planning and creative engineering solutions, the team managed to manoeuvre the crane onto the downshop rail with millimeters to spare.
Over the next couple of months, the engineers will be commissioning the crane and preparing it to start locating customer containers within the 10,000m² facility. It will be fully automated and will be tasked with locating a customer container within a stack of over 2000 containers and landing it within the confines of one of the 40 loading bays where customers will be able to access their goods and belongings.
